Driemanskap are about to unleash a new music video for the first single from their hotly anticipated new album, ‘Hlala Nam’. The track is called, ‘Izulu Lelam’, which, translated from isiXhosa, means ‘heaven is mine’. We joined up with Driemanskap, Ari Kruger and his team from Sketchbook Studios, and Vincent Ntunja (who plays a warrior – see above) to see what went down over the weekend of the video shoot.
‘Izulu Lelam’ is a song of hope dedicated to anyone going through tough times in life. The message of the song is that one day everyone will be free from the chains of hardship because heaven is a place that doesn’t discriminate between rich or poor, black or white.
The video shows a wounded warrior’s journey through the urban jungle. The warrior is a metaphor for life’s struggle and the indomitable spirit inside everyone who keeps going in the face of adversity. Driemanskap play a series of characters including a preacher (El Nino) and a street soldier (Redondo). As always, the people of Gugulethu and The Driemanskap Family all helped out with amazing additional character performances including a mother hearing tragic news and carjacking gangsters.
After having had a sneak preview, we can safely say that it’s an epic video that perfectly matches the tone of the track. The final video should be on your screens within a month.
Driemanskap ‘leaked’ Izulu Lelam a few weeks back and it has been downloaded more than 10,000 times on various file-sharing sites. Driemanskap have been steadily breaking through into the upper-echelons of the South African music industry after releasing a series of world class videos for tracks from their debut album, ‘Igqabhukil’Inyongo’. Their non-stop grind is finally paying off and there is no doubt that Driemanskap will be a major force after the release of ‘Hlala Nam’.
